The best example of how Kassel and the region like to celebrate is the four-day Zissel at the beginning of August. The Kassel folk festival has been celebrated on and around the Fulda since 1926, and everyone here knows what "D`r Häring hängt!" means - not just the Zisselkönigin and the Fullenixe.
Summer also includes Open-air concerts, Culture tents and Beer gardens. The Christmas markets in the Brothers Grimm region are popular beyond the region's borders. The alternative cinema scene is internationally renowned for the Dokfest, Kassel's annual documentary film and video festival.
