GEMS - Green Energy Management Systems for Business Parks
The Wirtschaftsförderung Region Kassel participates in the new Interreg NWE project GEMS - Green Energy Management Systems for business parks - which promotes the development and implementation of innovative approaches for the use of energy management systems in European business parks. In particular, the FiDT Technology and start-up center in Kassel as one of a total of six European pilot locations in focus. GEMS is supported by an international consortium and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Sustainable energy supply through energy management system

Goal of GEMS is to Energy efficiency and flexibility of electricity demand in business parks. An energy management system (EMS) serves as the central element of a smart grid solution.
By using EMS, small and medium-sized companies in particular can benefit from improved energy structures. These Systems record and analyze energy consumptionThe energy supply is optimized by integrating decentralized renewable energies into the supply and optimally adapting the loads to the respective demand situation. This avoids overloading the grids and increases the economic efficiency of the energy supply.
FiDT technology and start-up center as a pilot location
A central concern of the GEMS project is to create practical examples. For this reason, the start-up center FiDTwhich is represented by Wirtschaftsförderung Region Kassel on the management side, installed and tested an EMS. Inefficiencies in building operation are to be identified in this way. At the same time, the EMS offers added value to the approximately 90 tenants in the FiDT Technology and Start-up Center:
- Efficient energy supply as a location factor with a view to cost savings and Sustainability
- Forward-looking Infrastructure through smart technologies and digital twins of commercial real estate

Supra-regional relevance and European exchange

The project results are not limited to the Kassel region alone. GEMS is designed to cross bordersEMS models in several countries in north-western Europe - including Germany, Belgium, France, Ireland and the Netherlands - to develop, test and compare.
The cooperation of renowned partner companies and organizations promotes an intensive exchange of knowledge. This ensures that the developed Solutions applicable and scalable across regions are.
The following are involved in the project:
- Development Agency East Flanders
- Flux50
- Ghent University
- House of Energy e.V.

Promoting innovation through transnational cooperation
Within the framework of GEMS, not only technical, but also economic and political aspects are also taken into accountto create a viable concept for the future integration of EMS in business parks. The transnational cooperation allows us to develop a joint training program that enables rapid and efficient Targeted implementation of EMS in other business parks. In addition, the Federal Association of German Innovation, Technology and Start-up Centers (BVIZ) as an associated partner in the project in order to develop a to ensure the broadest possible dissemination of the technologies and concepts in Germany.
