Public and rail transport
Kassel has a dense network of streetcars, RegioTrams, city and regional buses as well as shared cabs (AST). Two strong partners ensure this service: the Nordhessischer Verkehrsverbund (NVV) as a network organization for the whole of North Hesse and the Kasseler Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (KVG) as a municipal operator in the city and its immediate surroundings. The local transport network is supplemented by the ICE train station Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe which connects Kassel to the most important long-distance routes.
Nordhessischer VerkehrsVerbund (NVV) - the strong network
The NVV coordinates the local transport servicesin five districts and the city of Kassel. Tickets are valid throughout the network - one ticket is therefore sufficient for the entire travel chain. Regular timetable adjustments extend the service.
A special feature of the network is the RegioTram. As a dual-system vehicle, it uses streetcar tracks within the city and switches to DB tracks outside Kassel. This allows passengers to reach destinations such as Hofgeismar, Wolfhagen, or Melsungen without having to change trains.

Kasseler Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (KVG) - local authority on site

KVG transports around 120,000 passengers a day on ten streetcar lines and more than forty bus lines in Kassel and the neighboring communities.
- Streetcar network: Seven lines serve all parts of the city; increased frequency for major events is standard.
- Buses: Diesel and electric buses supplement the rail network. The first e-buses have been in regular service since 2023, as shown in the picture.
- Social Tariff offers: With the Right in the middle of itTicket the KVG offers low-income residents a monthly season ticket for currently €35 (in 2025).
Long-distance traffic: ICE train station Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe
The station Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe is used by around 30,000 passengers every day and is a regular stop on the ICE routes Hamburg - Frankfurt - Munich, Berlin - Frankfurt and Dortmund - Erfurt - Dresden. This makes the station, located in the heart of Germany, an important hub for travelers.
Streetcar Line 1 and numerous bus lines connect the long-distance train station with the city center in just a few minutes, providing passengers with a seamless transition between long-distance and local transportation.
